Suggestions for Monologues/Advice for auditioning?
-
I am a college student who has recently decided to pursue voice over and voice acting as a career. So I'm preparing to switch majors to theatre so I can get some acting training and experience. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions for monologues and any advice for the audition itself. I appreciate anything you have to say; feel free to be honest. It would greatly be appreciated.

Answer:
How soon is the audition? If it is a while away try experimenting with dramatic and comedic monolgues and see which one you are better at portraying (not necessarily which one you feel comfortable with because if you can portray one better do that one). If you don't have much time then try to figure out which one you could do because it fits your personality or experiences. I personally thought that I'd be better at comedic because I'm always peppy and happy, but my dramatic monologue went to State in our division because it drew on my own experience. Play around with it and ask anyone you know personally that has experience with theatre to help you out. Audition Tips: - DO look *above* the people you're auditioning for. Looking at them makes everyone feel ridiculously uncomfortable. - DON'T choose a monologue because it's controversial or reaches a ridiculous kind of emotion within five seconds. You have a certain amount of time to impress the judges, not worry them. - DO try to think of "blocking" or movement to go with the words. It'll help with the memorization because you'll know to say a specific word with a specific movement. Nothing incredible, just a little movement.

I suggest go for a Comedic Monologue more than a Dramatic one, because the judges will most likely remember something that made them laugh more than something who made them cry.
