What is to be included in a high school portfolio?

Putting together a portfolio for a review?

  • I'm going to a meeting at an art collage, during that time they do individual Portfolio reviews. I have no experience with portfolios at the moment, im taking a portfolio class at school in the fall. Whats the best size of prints to include, and what all should be included?

  • Answer:

I'm no expert or anything, but just based on my logic, i would say you should include a few different sizes of prints. Not necessarily of the same picture, but different pictures in different sizes. As far as what you should include, well, i suppose it depends on what kind of art you do. Photography, drawing, painting, etc. If you do multiple things, then i would include a few of each that you like or others have said they enjoyed seeing.

It really depends on what medium you're displaying. You should check first to see if the school has any specific guidelines (some prefer copies, some accept digital slide-shows, other want actual slides, etc). A good place to start for me was: http://www.amazon.com/Developing-Maintaining-Design-Tech-Portfolio-Theatre/dp/024080712X/sr=1-1/qid=1169838854/ref=sr_1_1/102-4255954-2667365?ie=UTF8&s=books What is most important is making sure you artwork is represented in a format that shows it cleanly and clearly. Larger, well-printed photos with good lighting are key. Matting things on clean black backgrounds with consistent printed labels makes for a professional looking collection of your work.
