What's an easy, fast way to learn lines?

What's the best way to learn lines for a Shakespearean play?

  • I'm performing as Mark Antony in Julius Caesar, and I don't know many of my lines. The production is in two weeks; what is the best way to learn lines if you have a lot of them?

  • Answer:

Damn - you've left it a bit late! But it can be done. My daughter memorised 16 roles in Macbeth (several of them major ones) and the associated cues, in four weeks. Read the whole play, then read it again, then read MA's lines aloud, again and again. Gradually you'll find you're looking at the script less and less. Just keep going in every spare minute you have. Good luck.

Other answers

Read them or have them taped next to or on props that you move to during the play so you can read them easily. Hope this helps!!

Whew. Tall order. Its different for different people, but when I'm in a pinch I use flashcards. Break a leg, kiddo.
