Can I put extra work on a blank acting resume?

Should I put an acting class on my resume for training, and should a headshot be taken professionally?

• I'm trying to build a resume, and I only have experience from school productions in middle and high school. I have no idea what to put down. I have a few questions: 1. How can I build my resume to look professional? 2. There is an independent filmer who is taking applications for roles in his indie horror film, and he is interested in me. Can I add this to my resume if I take a part? 3. Also, there is an acting class being given at our local theater next week. If i take it, can I add this as well? 4. Should I purchase an equity membership?

  1. How can I build my resume to look professional? Keep it simple and uncluttered, just your education and ALL your experience, even You Tube films with your friends. List any special skills like, dancing, martial arts, music, as well. 2. There is an independent filmer who is taking applications for roles in his indie horror film, and he is interested in me. Can I add this to my resume if I take a part? Of course - and even if you DO NOT get a part volunteer on the production. More often then not you will end up in front of the camera. (Though the corn syrup/food colouring they use for blood gets sticky and messy) 3. Also, there is an acting class being given at our local THEATRE next week. If i take it, can I add this as well? Yes, yes, yes. ALL acting training you take should be listed. 4. Should I purchase an equity membership? Well, you need some professional experience before you can become an equity SAG (or ACTRA in Canada) member. Unfortunately, a union membership will make you ineligible for some indie films like your friends) because they will not be able to pay the minimums. Forget about paying dues until you have the experience and confidence to go for industry roles.
