What are open casting calls?

  • Heard on NickCasting they were having some open casting calls are those ones where I can go and audition without a agent and why don't they ever do these in Miami always New York and states surrounding them

  • Answer:

Almost all so-called 'open calls' are publicity stunts at best, scams at worst. Even if you found a genuine one, they employ people to check resumes at the door, and if anyone doesn't have a fantastic resume, showing years of training and loads of good experience, they're asked to leave. Very few actually get seen. What most directors want is a few really well-trained and very experienced actors turning up to audition - so they use agents. Agents have exactly who they want, so it saves time and money.

They are some of the worst auditions you can go too. But a great way to get networking with other actors. All the open auditions that I have heard of on the internet have flopped. If your really serious about acting take it step by step. Your first one would maybe be to get more training, experience or an agent. Even booking your first job.
