Any good plays to read that are relatively easy?

Where can I find plays to read for monologue material?

  • the library has outdated and limited supplies like classics and plays from the late 1900's, the bookstore has only the popular titles as well as classics. I'm looking for more obscure plays that I could find a great audition piece with to audition and am having luck finding any. The nearest Samuel French is 6 hours from me.... And while they have an online store it doesn't allow you to view the play before you buy it... Please help I'm getting really depressed as I feel I can't audition for anything as I can't find any material. Every piece of advice about reading a bunch of plays is a bunch of BS if there isn't any plays that fit my age range and genre. I'm a 21 year old asian female who looks 17. I can't find audition material for that if all the plays available to me are about old men, or male characters, or simply "wives" and "girlfriends..." How do female actors audition if there's no material to read?! Frustratedddd

  • Answer:

I find that the best thing to do for auditions is to grab a favorite book and pick a page to read from there. It may sound absolutely ridiculous but it really does work.
