• I'm auditioning to be in a classical theater conservatory program for teens at my local children's theater, and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a good minute monologue for me to do. The class focuses on playwrights like Shakespeare, Moliere, Checkhov, etc. I would be okay doing a boy's monologue, as long as it would fit for a fourteen-year-old, but preferably one for a girl. I have taken a few basic theater classes, but no audition classes. Does anyone have any tips for me? What little experience I've had I've loved, and I'd love to learn more through a select class if I can.

  If you're not way experienced, then I would go with Moliere. It would be a lot easier than Shakespeare, because iambic pentameter is kind of tough and usually takes a while to master, and also a lot easier than Chekhov, who just gets really wordy and heavy. With Moliere, the words just come out easier, and the way he writes, if you have a good translation, makes the verse come out the way it's meant to be. And Moliere's just a whole lot of fun. You could do something from Tartuffe, one of Mariane's monologues, or something from Angelique from The Imaginary Invalid. Most, if not all, of his plays have a young girl character, so it shouldn't be too hard to find something!
