How can i improve my acting skills?

  • okay so i plan to take acting lessons next year but in the mean time i was wondering if there was anything i could do to improve my skills.. I have monologues and books i use and im also apart of my local theatre. But are there any techniques i can do or things i can refer to.

    Good for you, the best thing to do is act natural. The art to acting is REACTING. The best things I refer to is movies, I watch how the actors do it on screen and pick up notes from there, compare actors from each other and follow the ones that suit your style: for instance I follow Johnny Depp's work before of his adaptability and pick up the way he tackles his work. Voice is a actor's best weapon so listening to tapes and movies are very helpful, just listen and observe the world around you, the idiosyncrasies and things you see and feel can be recalled on when acting a role and they make a role very believable. You can also try looking around google, but really the best teacher is life.

if u are serious about acting then so far u are on track i would recommend stage school they will train you and put you throught for auditions if in britain try these Italia Conti Stage School (London) Red Roofs Stage School etc the fees might cost a bomb but they will get u in the west end particularly italia conti they are very good go on there website hotseating - questioning the character in role is a good way of developing your character and accent etc
