How do I pursue an acting career?

How do I pursue a career in acting (stage and film).?

  • I have 15 years of classical singing training (I'm rather good) and am currently studying Economics at university (at my parents' will). My initial plan was to apply to Drama school (which I probably wouldn't have gotten into given I don't have a drama background - though I have a strong public speaking and debating one! - and there is singing) My next plan was continue the Economics but be EXTREMELY involved in University Drama - which I couldn't do because I started a "work-and-study very prestigious and highly coveted paid intership scheme" that my parents really didn't want me to refuse. I just left it about a month ago, but I graduate college/uni at the end of this year, and I doubt I could really make my mark in 7 months! I know that my parents won't stop me from pursuing acting if I have a solid step-by-step plan on how to I intend to become an actress, but the problem is I don't. I have no idea who to approach, where to find reputable agents. And I'm almost 21 years old!

  • Answer:

Well, first you need to have a experience on stage. Try to do a play ASAP. You need to see if drama is your thing. Then, you need to do training and acting/singing lessons. You should learn how to dance too, so you can be a "triple threat" and agents and casting directors like that. You should also do headshots for your agent to send over to casting directors. Don't worry I don't think it doesn't need to be professional.
