Audition songs for Musical Theatre that aren't 'overdone'?
-
I'm auditioning for musical theatre courses and I need a ballad song and an uptempo song. I've been told to stay away from 'overdone' songs from musials such as Les Mis and Wicked and also songs in a different accent (I'm from London). I've gone through all the songs I've previously sung and several lists of audition songs but I can't many songs that suit my age, aren't overdone and are in an English accent. Any ideas? I'm 17, so I'm looking for musical theatre songs for teens/young adults.

"Everything I Know" from in the heights. I don't think theres going to be a difference that you have an accent. This song is in fact underdone....

What about doing the song "So Much Better" from Legally Blonde the musical. It's such a great song, and I think you can get sheet music online, and they did Legally Blonde in London a few years ago, and they also had it first on Broadway in New York from 2007-2008 (I think, I'm not quit sure on years but around 2008-ish). And it's based on the movie Legally Blonde with Resse Witherspoon :) That song has amazing vocals in it, and Laura Bell Bundy was the first Elle Woods before Bailey Hanks took over on Broadway for her, and you could get the origional sound track on itunes and here the whole show :) It's really well done! And I think it'd be perfect for your age, and it will show your vocals too :) Hope this helps :) Good luck with your audition :) Oh also you could try something from Mary Poppins I'm not sure if it has a London version or not, but you could check something from that show too :) It's awesome aswell! But "So much Better" would be my best bet for you :)
