How do I pursue and acting career?

  • I am currently 17 and a junior in high school. I had taken a drama class last year at my old high school and I felt like acting was something that I was good at, and I liked to do it. This year I cannot take a drama class, as they don't offer it at my new high school...now that I am starting to think about colleges, I find myself wanting to pursue VPA (Visual Performing Arts) and be an actor. It seems really far fetched to me. I feel like now isn't the time to start and that if this is what I wanted to do then I should've tried to do more acting earlier. Another inspiration for me is actually reading "The Hunger Games" and then watching the trailers, since I know a lot of people who are actually extras in the movie, I have been inspired to try and audition for other movies filmed around here (I live in North Carolina). Going back and reading all of this, it seems like more of a dream to me and something that I wont be able to achieve..I don't where to start or what to do.. Please help!

    pursue acting but be smart about it.keep your grades up and get into a good college then DOUBLE MAJOR. you have to be willing to put forth the work, but if you do you can follow your dreams while still actually making money.

Find another class as soon as possible and also join a community theatre to get some practical experience. It's a tough career choice - very few actors ever get more than 2 or 3 weeks' paid acting work a year, so do make sure that you have enough qualifications to get an ordinary job just so you can survive financially. Some dreams come true - the majority don't.
