What song should I do for my Show Choir audition?

Show Choir/general audition song help?

• In about two months, my high school is holding auditions for select chorale, show choir, and chamber auditions. I want to join Show Choir but my school is really competitive and I want to make sure I have a good and well-prepared audition song. Along with this, I have auditions for Grease and 42nd street coming up. (In Grease I hope to be Rizzo, and this will be my second time in 42nd street and I hope to be either Maggie or Dorothy.) I'm fourteen, turning fifteen, female, an alto II with a fantastic low range, I can belt but I also have a decent head voice. I've done six shows in the past year and I'm decently talented, however because I am an alto I am indeed at a disadvantage, for most shows are written with female soprano leads. I have been told I have a rather strong voice. In the past, I've auditioned with several 'mistake' songs, and I really just don't want to make that mistake again because I've lost roles I wanted due entirely to my choice of audition song. I need a ballad and an upbeat for show choir auditions and the other two it doesn't particularly matter, any help you can give would be fantastic!

  I have the same vocal range as you do and have been successful in auditions with "Beauty and the Beast" from Beauty and the Beast and "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" from Lion King. I would also suggest looking up songs from smaller musicals so you don't sing any songs that are way to over done (e.g. "Part of Your World", "Tomorrow" from Annie). I hope this helps!!
