What are some good teenage monologues?

What are some good monologues for a high school sophomore to perform?

  • I am a 16 year old Sophomore and I have this upcoming audition for AP acting and I wanted to know if there were any monologues from classic plays that would be a good idea to use. They cannot be from Shakespeare or any Elizabethan time era. I would really like to find a monologue from a classic play that has a dramatic edge. I also need one that is comedic. Does anyone know any good monologues from classic plays?

  • Answer:

I don't really know of many monologues from any "classic" plays, but I used one from a play call After Juliet by Sharman MacDonald, who's a pretty famous modern playwrite. It's Rosaline's monologue to Juliet's tomb, but you would probably have to cut it down a lot, because it's very long. If it Absolutely HAS to be from a classic play, you could try something from Antigone. Antigone and Ismene both have very nice monologues. I've done both in class and they're fairly easy to memorize and have a lot of emotion in them. Hope that helps some. Break a leg at the audition. Higher level theatre is a lot of fun. :)
