How To Spray Paint?

Know how to make or where to buy fake spray paint for a stage prop?

• Does anyone know where I can buy fake spray paint? Or can you tell me how to make it? We are doing a production of Neil LaBute's "The Shape of Things" and the script calls for the female lead to spray paint her phone number onto the male lead's jacket. I looked into canned air but can't find anything that looks like a can of spray paint. Also, it needs to be something that has the ball bearing in it to make the sound a regular can of spray paint would make. Thank you!

• Answer:

  Get a used up spray paint can from the scenery people. Add the spray sound effect (probably can't pick up the actual sound of spraying on stage anyway). Could probably use a ball berring sound effect too. A spray starch can with appropriate relabeling might do for an oversized paint can (it also makes those sounds).
