I am from San Antonio Texas and I can tell you straight up there is NO opportunity there. You need to get involved in your local houston theatre companies first if possible. If not, then get your butt to cali or NYC. I went to acting school in NYC at age 19 after high school and it was the best thing I could do. Looks great on my resume and helped me be a better actor. NYC is better in my opinion because you do not need a car and there are trains to get you around and getting jobs here is easy. In cali, you need a car and it is more lonely as the city is spread out. In NYC everything is so close and the stores and clubs stay open almost all night so you never feel lonely. You can get a "room for rent" and live in a dorm style room in someone's apt. and pay very little. Then get a job and go to acting classes and auditions. Waitress jobs are great as are being a part-time nanny, photographer etc. I got a room for rent after graduating and it saved my butt from being homeless and broke. go to craigslist.org and look up "shares and rooms" and you will see what I mean. I went personally through "rooms for rent" which is located on 145th and broadway. They will find u a room THE SAME DAY you walk in and pay them. Cash up front and you get a room asap in some family apt. You get a lock for your door and a key. and do not worry about being alone. NYC is a great place to make friends. it is a tough city, but the business requires you be tough so it will help you become a grown person real quick. I grew up overnight because NYC pushed me to mature and kick butt or else drown and be swallowed up. So get out asap. Pursue your dreams. I recommend going to NYC. Cheaper for a beginning actor.

I'd say go for it cause I agree in houstan, Texas eveything is all hard ore and they don't seem to favor acting or Amy kind of theatre or art. If ur planning on movig first be sure to have a plan like what school u'll be attending & u should find out if u have any friends, relatives, or even a pen pal.. Take me I plan on going to go to Tokoy, Japan I live in LA and me and a friend have a couple of pen pals. cause if u plan on going to school there u'll need somewhere to stay cause I'm sure that u won't plan to go back home after every semester or whenever the caMpus might be close.
