Question about aspiring acting, tattoos, and screen acting?
-
Hey I'm thinking of exploring the field of acting in the future. I was wondering if visible tattoos or tattoos period are a problem in the process..? Also, where would screen acting take me? Because I dont wanna do theatre. Plzzz answer and thank you so much!

Answer:
Tattoos are a hassle! I got an armband tattoo when I turned 35 cos I figured I was never going to be cast as the shirtless hero ever again. Wrong! Next play I was cast in required me to be completely naked. I had to convince the director and producer that I could easily cover the tat but it was a huge hassle. Screen acting options are much more limited than theatre jobs. Screen pays better - when you can get the work - but I find it tedious ... you spend hours doing nothing until they're ready for you on set and then you spend another aeon waiting for all the techy bits to be right. Get your acting experience in the theatre first. Very few people leap straight on to the screen from nowhere.

Lol i dont blame you, theatre is boring as hell. I think you should try moving to LA and attending casting calls but first get an agent. GL

If you think theatre is boring, wait until you try film acting. Mostly you stand around most of the day, after getting up at dawn, and wait for the crew to be ready, then you do a little scene and then you do it over and over again until the director is satisfied, then you repeat. But stage acting is where you learn to use your acting talent, the only difference in what the actor does is that the scenes are longer and the actor must project if he is not miked. A professional actor will take any job he can get until he is a star who can pick an choose his roles. Tattoos can be a problem, but most can be easily covered with make up.

Most screen actors find that live theatre is really beneficial as a training tool. As far as the tattoos, though, they might be a problem, depending on how badly the director wants to cast you. They are possible to cover up, but they can mean the difference between two good actors, one of whom the costumer has to cover a tattoo on and the other whom he doesn't. If you're looking into getting a tattoo and wanting to be a screen actor... don't.
