How to start an acting career?
-
Hi :). I'm 13 yrs old, long brown hair, blue/green eyes, pretty. I am white but my skin tone is a little bit tan but still not very dark at all. I'm a straight A student. 5"3 and 135-140 lbs (but alot of people say I don't look like I weight that much.) I am very mature for my age mentally and in my appearance. I live roughly 4-5 hours from LA. I really want to get started on an acting career but I don't have alot of proffessional experience. I do take lines from TV shows and act them out by myself, and I've been practicing building up my emotions. (I'm pretty good at making myself cry easily now lol.) My family doesn't have that much money and they wouldn't be able to afford acting classes. I live in a smaller town anyways so I'm not even sure if acting classes are available. So that's out. I know that you supposobly need an agent. But how much do they cost? (Remember my family doesn't have alot of money.) How do you get one? And is an agent really even NECESSARY, or can you get by without one? I know that you would need a headshot and resume if I decided to audition for a part in anything. I live kinda far from any of the big cities, but moving is out of the question. My parents wouldn't just pack up and move for me just because I want to be an actress. I don't even think they would have confidence in me. I've never really brought it up to them though. I'm not that close to my dad and I've kind of just thrown it out there and been like "Mom I wanna be an actress." But I don't think that she thought I was serious about it. I don't really wanna sit down and talk to her about it because I know that she wouldn't think that i could do it considering the chance, but I have confidence in myself. I'm a smart girl and I know that if I work hard enought I could be successful. I just need to know how to get started. If I was over 18 and I could move to LA I would, but I'm not. I'm not doing it for the fame, It looks really fun and I think I would like it, but I know that it would be really hard work. And I think that I might be a natural. But I wouldn't want to be on Disney Channel or Nickelodeon or anything like that. I would be more interested in guest starring in an episode of House or a show like that. Guest starring on an episode of Supernatural would be my dream (I'm obsessed with that show, and they do have younger guest stars). I know that that wouldn't happen right away, but in time. And if you are filming a show, what about school? Do you have to go to school once a week on top of filming or something like that? And how do you know when/where there are auditions? I just feel like if I had an agent and had the things that I needed to be able to audition, I could be good at it. And I know that I'm not experienced at all, but EVERYONE, even the big name stars started from nothing once. They built their way up, and I think I could do the same. I know I would be rejected sometimes, but I really want to try it out. If you can answer any of my questions or help me out in any way I would appreciate it soooo much. I know that was long so sorry about that. Thank you so much :)

Answer:
Becoming an Actor is easy. Simply: Pick up a script, learn your lines and perform. Being Famous on the other hand is completely different. No one here knows 'cause no one here is. Though in order to get Acting work 9/10 you'll need an Agent. Here's how to Find and Apply for an Agent: http://www.youtube.com/user/Funstuff13613?feature=mhum#p/u/12/0nUBPVIwJTE All the best :)

My friend Trevor is an actor. He's been in movies and had small parts. He was in must love dogs and a lot of stuff. He goes has photo shoots and stuff. I think you should just find out when open auditions are and go. Don't be so picky and you may get lucky. Don't just pick up and move to LA when your 18. People ruin their lives that way.
at 13 your parents have to get you into acting, you can't do this yourself. if your school has them, do school plays and drama classes. look around you for local theater, their open calls. take some acting classes if you can. you will need to get close to LA if you want professional auditions. there is too much competition for too few parts. you will not get anywhere if your going to be picky on what kind of parts you want. aside from commercials. there are only so many places for young people to get work. that'.s Disney,Nick and ABC Family. agents do not cost, they only get paid if you work, they get 10%. but it will cost to get you to the point your ready for an agent. you will need to be where there are opportunities, you can't do this from everywhere. if there is nothing where you are and you can't get to where there is, you will need to wait till you can do this on your own.

Acting out tv stuff doesn't count as experience. Have you done school or community theatre? Any low budget short films? Agents are 100% free. You don't pay for them. They get actors auditions and then if the actor gets the job, the agen gets 10% (usually, sometimes it's 15%) of the money the actor makes. Unfortunatly though, they choose who they accept. Without any headshot/resume/training/experience, they wont give you a second thought. Agents aren't neccessary for very small theatre or for school plays. But for large theatre and to be on tv, they are. Those production companies don't just announce auditions to everyone. They tell some agents, and the agents tell their clients. If you are filming, there are SAG guidelines, which state that a child actor must be in "school" for a minimum of 6 hours. When the production is working with young performers, they have a tutor that works with the kids. You sound like you are interested in this. If you really want this, you can email me and I'd be happy to give you more info.
