Need ideas for professional email address for an acting resume?
-
I am trying to come up with a new email address for my acting resume, so I'm trying to put my first and last name in the email. I am trying to create it either through (preferably) GMail or Yahoo! ...unfortunately, my name, although not very common, is apparently JUST common enough so that every combination I've tried has turned out no available emails. I've tried FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME@, LASTNAME.FIRSTNAME@, and even without the periods, but I can't seem to find one that is available. I really do not want to put a number in the email, especially not if it is my birth year, but if I MUST choose a number, what number could I use that could still make it look professional? I also do not wish to use my middle name or initial so if anyone has a good idea, I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer:
I would recommend to buy your name as a domain name. for an example johnsmith.me a lot of people are doing that now I do the same thing. I just tell them my name and choosing .me makes more sense than .com and than you can have an e-mail like [email protected] or something. it looks more professional. WHY THE F#@! DID I GET A THUMBS DOWN!?!?

You can use first and middle initials and then last name, like if you are Roberta Jane Smith, you could be RJSmith at GMail or Yahoo. or SmithRJ at GMail, etc. Yeah, definitely no birth years. Nobody in show biz ever admits to their age. :-)

you can always try other sites for your email....gmail, yahoo, msn, there's others! but to be honest i don't think they care about your email address...

Just go to Gmail, put your FIRSTNAME-LASTNAME-YEAR OF BIRTH you might have to tweak the order around, but you should be fine. It doesn't get more professional than your name. hmm, how about using your middle name as well or making a stage name?

It doesn't have to be a boring email address. It doesn't have to be your name. Make it one word,..no numbers,..no underscores. Something memorable.

Gmail reserves every combination of dots and underscores in your username ([email protected] and [email protected] as well as stuff like [email protected]) automatically at every sign up so trying combinations of your name and surname aren't going to work. Someone has obviously already taken the name+surname combo and that reserves name, surname and dot combos for him. How about using something like johntheactor or johnactor? Your best bet, however, is to buy a domain name from google, which will automatically give you a gmail-based email. It costs just $10 per year and is way cool when put on a resume. The interface is gmail's, so you'll find it very easy to use: http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/domain.html All the best!
