Emotional Male Monologues?
-
Hey guys! I want to work on my acting skills. I've been in two school plays and really enjoy it. I was wondering if there's any emotional male monologues you guys could suggest for me to practice with. Any type of emotion would be great. (Anger, jealousy, depression, sadness, excited, scared, hesitant, nervous, apprehensive, malevolent... anything) Also, I'm open to varying lengths but would prefer something that's 4 minutes or less. I really want to focus on delivering emotion, not memorization at this moment. Any age will work as well, it's just for practice. (I prefer male monologues, but if a good female monologue is out there... I'll try that too.) So, again, could you suggest any and all emotional monologues you can think of that would work for great practice in delivering emotion? Thank you for your time and consideration!

Answer:
I'm giving you a lot of shakespeare in Hamlet, there's the "O, what a rogue and peasant slave am I" soliloquy, which is amazing and has all kinds of emotion Angry? Oh, there are so many! Leontes in Winter's Tale: "Go, play boy, play", act 1 scene 1 Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, "God's bread, it makes me mad." Act 4 scene 3 of Julius Caesar is full of angry and sad and desperate. "remember march," "you have done that you should be sorry for," "Come, Antony, and young Octavius, come" super depressing Same play, act 3 scene 1, Antony "O, pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth," King Lear last scene For jealousy, look at Othello excitement? Benedick, for one, in Much Ado About Nothing, all over the place Fear...Hamlet, ghost scene...most of Macbeth, especially around witch scenes and Duncan's murder. Hesitant...oh, "If it were done, when tis done, then twere well it were done quickly," from Macbeth nervous, go with "is this a dagger I see before me..." same play, 2.1 i think that's more apprehensive, i guess. Works for both. Malevolent, look for Iago stuff in Othello. Or Richard III in his play or in Henry VI part 3. Look through all Shakespeare and you will find TONS

There is a scene from the movie The Renaissance Man and there is a quote from William Shakespeare's Hamlet.Part of the quote is "He that shall live this day and see old age......" .it is a moving piece, once you have read it or heard it, you can't help but get goosebumps.EDIT This quote is from Shakespeare's Henry V , not Hamlet. as I had posted. just so you can look up the correct passage. It is worth the read.

Have a look at " The Duchess of Malfi" by John Webster. Ferdinand has a really emotive Speech aimed at his sister (the duchess) loss of reputation. I also recommend the "It is the cause..." speech from Othello. set in the bed chamber of Desdemona prior to his smothering of her. break a leg
