  • Answer:

Lot / Arles and the Dordogne region in the Southwest for pretty countryside. Grenoble for the Alps, which are great for walking and climbing (paragliding?). Paris in August will be dull; many things are closed as the French take August as the holiday month. All of France will be warm at this time of year, and more reliably sunny than Ireland. You should ask this question over in Travel, and find a copy of the Rough Guide to France to give an outline on the different areas.

Hi There are 22 regions of France in the country plus Corsica and a few overseas territories and just about all of them have something to offer especially at the times you are are thinking of going. If you want to do Paris, its quite a long train journey from the bottom of the country in the South - about 11 hours or more but Normandy is much nearer - or Brittany which is next to Normandy but further down and gets great weather and has beautiful beaches. If you do go to Normandy - try the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont St Michel - its awesome. Normandy won't be cold at that time of year but it might be wet - although that can go for anywhere in France as it can in Ireland. Wherever you go - have a good craic!
