Can my sister go back to high school?
-
My sister is 23. When she was 13, she became very ill and spent the next 7 years primarily in and out of hospital (mostly in hospital). She tried to her best to finish her education, but she only managed to finished grade 10. She is now well and we are all grateful for that. However, she is extremely depressed. She is literally sick over having missed the high school experience. The last 6 months all she has been talking about is how she wants to go back to high school. And not just get her diploma. She does not want to finish her high school by adult education, night school or correspondence. She actually wants to go back to a regular high school. She looks VERY young... I mean, she does not look a day over 16. She just wants to go back and get to experience the whole high school experience. And I can understand that. It may be hard to understand, but this is extremely important to her. This is all she can think about. Is there any way I can help her? She is already seeing a therapist, but it is not helping at all.

Answer:
I think so, yeah. Totally, she deserves to. This may sound weird, but this guy goes to my brother's high school. I'm guessing he's around 40? Early 50's maybe, but he definitely goes there. First contact the high school though if she can register to attend the school. If she can't, ask if she can take homeschooling. Homeschooling is in the US, and you can even have classes online. Anything is possible these days, just ask. Answer mine please! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100330225800AAS2vwT

If you say she looks 'not a day over 16' then why doesn't she just go back. Are there any laws prohibiting her from going back? Maybe she could become a teacher instead.
She absolutely can go back and finish. There are people in their 40s going back to finish school and good on them too! Just get her to check around local schools in your area as not all schools have this program in place but most of them do. You can also go to TAFE here in Australia to finish school and many kids leave in year 10 and do their 2 senior years at TAFE. Not sure why but they can and do. That might be worth looking into as well, or the equivalent of TAFE where you are. Hope she does well
I can totally understand that ! I finished high school not even a year ago and i already miss it a lot. There's nothing like it, it's a major step in growing up. I wish I could give you any advice but i have no idea how she could do it.
