Why are my parents so overprotective?

  • Whenever I stay home alone, they always freak out when I don't answer my phone (mostly due to bad service in the area, no battery, or it's in another room), and then after I call them saying I'm fine, they start randomly lashing out about how they were afraid I was kidnapped or something? (wtf??) I mean, I know they care and everything, but it's extremely annoying how they always think that I'm going to get kidnapped or murdered or something stupid like that. They also won't let me sleep over at any of my friend's house unless they are familiar with the parents, and they set EXTREMELY high standards for my friends, even with income level!! Plus they're annoying when it comes to me talking with guys. They're always lecturing me on how I shouldn't get too close, and whenever I chat with a guy on Facebook (just friends, nothing else), they freak out and automatically assume that I'm talking to an internet pedophile. Rant over. Please don't tell me to sit down and talk with my parents, or that I'm a spoiled brat. I am quite well-behaved and get good grades, but I don't like it that they always nag and nag or worry that I'll someday get kidnapped.

    Sorry but that isn't even the definition of overprotective. A lot of parents do what you just listed and frankly, with how crappy the world is right now, it's probably a good idea to make sure the father of your friend isn't a sex offender.

I know how you feel. It's very hard having parents like that... But always remember that they intend to do what's best for you. They love you. There are lots of people in this world who get nothing but pain from their parents. You're lucky that you have a Mum and Dad that gives you so much love. It seems incredibly annoying that they are so overprotective but you're gonna have to stick with then until you're atleast 18. You can lesson their overprotectiveness by showing them how mature you are. Do something that will make then see you are a big girl now, that you don't need to be caged up anymore.

Just don't put your self in any predicaments out their, I know I almost got taken a few times but thank God it didn't happen, and they let me out of the car. don't be gullible like I use to be! Just say I'm ok I'll walk, bye!
