How does a 18 year old get a permit?

How do I get my 18 year old to get her learners permit so she can learn to drive?

  • For some odd reason she just isn't interested and it's driving me crazy.

  • Answer:

Have you tried asking her? To say it's for some odd reason, makes me think you haven't asked her point blank. I didn't get my license until I was 21 mostly because my parents weren't interested in me driving their cars. I had no money to get my own car and frankly the idea of driving a car scared me. Driving is scary especially in the city. Driving lonely country roads would be scary too because, what if the car broke down and my cell phone didn't work? If she tells you she's just too lazy, then maybe I would push her by not taking her everywhere she wants to go. Otherwise, a scared driver makes a really bad one and you don't want to have to pick up the pieces.

Stop taking her wherever she wants to go.

What is her reason for not wanting one? It is odd for her not to want that doorway to independence. Fear could be a factor. Not wanting the responsibility or not feeling ready for it. Well, It sounds like something is up. Hope things improve and she gets one.

I actually know a few people who don't have a license and never have and they are in their 20's, 30's, and 40's. I think in today's crazy world, people are more afraid to drive. As long as your 18y/o gives you gas money to drive her around, I don't see a big deal. Also, i live in Michigan, and i dont know if they laws are the same in every state, but when i was in the midst of obtaining 50 hours of drive time on my permit, I turned 18. So i just went down to the DMV, took the written test and the road test, w/o all of my drive hours in and got my license, w/o ever having to be on the permit any longer.

My sister is 21 this year and also expects my mum to take her everywhere because she has NO desire what so ever to get her licence or anything for another 5 years... I don't know how she could not want the independence... especially at 21. From experience the best way will be to constantly nag her and irritate her about it and i mean CONSTANTLY and stop taking her places almost all together!

I'm 21 and I don't have my license. My sister is 24 and doesn't have hers. It's really not that big of a deal. Don't pester her about it, it only makes it worse. I had no desire to get it and I -really- didn't want to get it when people kept getting onto me about it. I know a lot of people in their 20s who don't have a license. Since people have stopped bothering me about it, I've actually started wanting to get my license. In Texas, if you're over 18, you can just go try for your license without having to get a permit.

Find a drivers ed school and enroll her. Drop her off there when it is time for class. She will be required to get her permit before the class does the physical part of the class. I doubt that she will chicken out if she is with an entire class of kids going for the same thing. The first few weeks will be about learning the laws & signs. Then she will be less afraid to take the test. Best wishes

If she is not interested it would not be a nice move since she won't do it the way a person who is interested will do it. Stop giving her a ride and let her experience the pain of commuting. She will ask your help or somebody else in how to get a permit.

Wow I cant imagine not wanting to drive. I couldnt wait to turn 16 so I could drive by myself. Make her take a bus to places she wants to go to.
