Which Paintball Marker should I buy?

  • I'm having an extremely tough time trying to decide whether I should buy the Tippman Gryphon, or the Kingman Tippman Spyder Sonix. Please help me out and pick one you would recommend and why you recommend it. My friends tell me the Sonix but I don't know which gun. I'm mostly looking at FPS, Accuracy, and a durable gun that doesnt chop paint and is a good gun for a Paintballer who is his second time but plans on doing it for a while. Thanks!

    If you want my honest answer, I'd avoid anything sold new at these price points. They'll as low quality and bare bones as you can possibly get. You might think about buying something higher quality, but used. Even a Spyder with a vision system would be under $100 used in great condition. Spyder VS1 or Spyder Pilot with eye. Heck even something with no real upgraded features would still be higher quality. Even a Tippmann 98. As mentioned, FPS doesn't change gun to gun. They're all capable of variable speeds between 0 and 300fps+. And accuracy isn't going to be any different at these price points. Paint quality is going to be your determining factor here. And a vision system as mentioned above will help prevent any chops you might get (usually from crappy paint).

I'd go with the Sonix, just cuz it's gonna be smaller & lighter. All paintball guns must shoot within the same velocity limits, so fps is the same. Accuracy depends on barrel and paint quality, not the gun itself, and both their stock barrels are about the same. Both are durable enough under normal conditions (normal like NOT throwing them out 2 story buildings or strapping fireworks to them, lol). Both have equal chances of chopping. Chopping happens either because the balls are bad, or you're shooting faster than the hopper can feed. No gun is prone to chopping for the heck of it.
