Any suggestions on a finding what I will be good at?

Looking for a good pocket knife, suggestions and info on finding a good blade?

  • So, I want a folding pocket knife to take with me hiking. No set use for it, I just want an all around knife for whatever I may need it for. What should I look at when considering a knives? Who are some good makers of knives? What's the benefit of having a partially serrated blade vs no serrations? On top of what I'm asking above, have any suggestions for knives to look at? I was thinking a blade around 3-4" long. And I want a blade that will stay sharp longer than a day. I know all knives lose their edge after some use and will need sharpening, but I want a knife that will hold an edge for a decent amount of time. I wouldn't mind spending a fair amount of money as long as I know it's a quality knife that will hold an edge. I've gone through a fair few of cheap knives, bout time I got something better than you can buy at walmart.

Look up cold steel they make many great high quality knifes i own many of them one i would recommend is there ak-47 pocket knife or a voyager. Serrations on a knife are mainly for cuting things like rope or plastic(synthetic stuff) so i would definitely go with a strait edge (it cuts syntyetic stuff just fine) but a serrated blade is not a versatile and there way harder to sharpen, dont buy a knife with half/half strait/serrated ive had a cupple and i find that its just annoying so go with a strait edge. Also when picking a knife find out what steel there made out of, the more carbon the sharper the knife can get but ita a "double edged sword because to much carbon makes the steel brittle so look for somthing like 1055 or in that area. Cold steel dose a good job with there steels and are not super pricey for the quality so there a great pick
