What is the basic care for ice-skates?

New to taking care of knives, what are some basic tips?

• I just bought a Ka-Bar Kukri and I have some other knives, machetes, and such on the way. I want to know whats the best way to take care of them... I seen one person say to not keep your knife (or whatever) in a sheath unless its in use. Is this true and if so, where should I keep my knives? How should I keep my knives from rusting? Should I oil them and what should I use? Any basic tips to help me keep my collection in good condition? Thanks!

  Yes, keeping your knives in the sheath can cause them to rust especially if the blade is made out of high carbon steel rather than stainless steel? I have quite a few knives, both high carbon steel and stainless steel. You should keep them lightly oiled at all times. I use an old dishrag which has been washed to apply the oil or you can spray it on (lightly, just a couple of sprays then distribute with a rag) if your using WD-40 or Rem Oil. Any type of multipurpose machine oil like 3 in 1 oil will work as well as WD-40 or Rem Oil. If your not using them constantly, you'll want to periodically visually inspect your knives while in storage, especially the high carbon steel ones for rust, so that you can nip it in the bud before it damages the blade or other metal components. If you don't have a display case then you could always use a dresser drawer or an old plastic tool carrying case to store them, line it with old newspaper to soak up any oil this will also help keep them dry in storage. One more thing, you can buy dessicant in a container or a small bag (Walmart or online) to keep in the space in which you are storing your collection as an added precaution to keep it nice and dry.
