What states have the greatest nursing shortage?

Nursing degree in England, good in the United States?

  • I live in the United States right now but my husband is in the Air Force and he recently got orders for us to move to England. I am currently taking classes and was hoping to get a nursing degree, however in light of our recent news I will have to continue my education in England. The thing is I have never been to Europe and I am worried that if I get a degree in Nursing in England when we come back to the United States, it won't be any good. We will be stationed in a base called RAF Lakenheath. I was trying to find colleges around that area and I found some colleges that offer BSc (Hons) & DipHE. I don't know what these are but I am really worried that this type of diploma is no good in the United States. Does anyone know if this type of diploma can be used in the United States or has anyone done nursing and England and used it in the United States? Please only respond if you know. Thank you

  • Answer:

Nursing education in England is quite different from in the US. English nurses are specialist trained and US nurses are trained in general nursing, covering all areas as a part of their standard education. If you trained as a nurse in England you would not have the qualifications needed to work in the US.
