In the US, law is a post-graduate course only. You need to have a bachelors degree first - and not in law - in order to get into a US law school. So you can't get into law school in the US right now. You have choices. You can either get your bachelors in the US, and then go on to a US law school. You can get your bachelors in another country, including the UK, and then apply to US law schools. Or you can get your LLB in the UK, Australia, or another country where they offer law for bachelors degrees, and then come to the US to do your LLM - masters degree in law. If you want to study in the US, you come in on a student visa. The university is your sponsor, so you're good re: that. If you want to practice law in the US, you need to go to a US law school. Otherwise, in most states, you can't sit the bar exam; and in those few where you could, you wouldn't be able to pass it - you need to study US law. I believe there are some UK law programs that offer dual programs in US law, so that might work. Once you finished law school, you'd need to get an employer to sponsor you for a work visa, so you could stay in the US. Considering the glut of law students right now, v. the number of law jobs in the US, the only way you could do this would be to go to one of the top law schools, and to focus on a type of law that's in demand in the US. So you'd be looking at Yale, Harvard, etc. re: law school. Most US universities offer little, if any, financial aid for foreign students. There are some that do, though; so you may be able to get some financial help for your bachelors, should you do it in the US. You'd need to speak directly to each school. However, you'd need to pay for your US law school yourself somehow - via loans from home, perhaps.
