What are some good minors for a marketing major?

Studying Abroad Advice-Marketing?

  • I am planning on studying abroad in the Spring of 2011. As a strategic communication (public relations) major and marketing minor, I am looking to enhance my knowledge of these two subjects. Particularly, I need to fulfill requirements for my marketing minor. What are good countries for studying abroad and studying marketing? I am interested in going to Europe, particularly Italy (possibly Florence, Milan, or Venice), but I'm also open to other countries and continents. I do not want the courses to be difficult. Honestly, I am more interested in experiencing the city than more courses, so I do not want them to be difficult! I almost want my study abroad experience to be a vacation, involving little classwork, although I'm not sure if that's possible... I really am just looking for a great experience! Has anyone had a really great study abroad experience and care to expand upon the program and/or location. I am especially interested if there are any marketing majors or minors out there! Absolutely any information will be greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

Lizzie, The good news: You have a lot of options. There are many programs that will fit what you are trying to accomplish academically, by taking marketing classes in Europe. You may want to start by talking with your campus study abroad office and/or academic advisor to see what classes they recommend to take while abroad. I would suggest finding a program that will best suit your interests and that will meet any language needs that you might have. For example, I studied abroad with International Studies Abroad (ISA) where I took classes, honed my language skills, and got to experience the culture and environment of a new country. ISA does have marketing classes in Florence and many other locations as well, including Spain, Brazil, Belgium, France and other countries. I encourage you to work with your study abroad office to see if a program that ISA, or other providers, might offer that will be a good fit with your university. Also keep in mind that “Studying Abroad” is going to have an academic component. Many programs will include excursions that will take you to see beautiful areas of the countries where you are studying, but there are supplements to the educational experience of studying abroad. If I can be of further assistance, don’t hesitate to let me know.
