How to get basic civil engineering formulas?

What would you major if you were me? Business or Engineering?

  • Let me start off by saying sorry my english is kinda broken, so bare with me please. I'm getting a full scholarship to the US and i have to pick either business or engineering and a university... I'm probably gonna pick a university in Philadelphia, PA anyways.. in my country, engineering is like an awesome major and every one respects an engineer and they get payed quite good. and business is like a random major it isnt that WOW but its kinda good and the pay is ok But I really REALLY REAALLLYY HATE PHYSICS. like i cant handle studying it, i get bad grades in it compared to other subjects and the theories and the conclusion and the formulas just makes my mind explode. And I know that engineering is all about physics and you have to study alot of physics. So thats why im confused But I'm Very good at math, statics and numbers, it's my passion, i just LOVE calculating and solving mathematics problems and i would love to major in business administration/ finance or economics. but i don't know.. I think its not a very good major so its like this Engineering: good major but alot of physics Business: I love it but its not a very good major I'm thinking of continuing for Master's and above, my ambition is pretty high, and I'm thinking of working in the US after that, i wont get back to my country. If that makes any difference. So what would you do if you were me? what advice would you give me? side question: which state and city would u pick if u were on a full scholarship (They pay for school tuition) and 3300$ monthly salary for housing and food etc and why?

  • Answer:

You are NOT going to get though an engineering major with out physics classes. Sounds like you should go into accounting, not engineering. Accounting or Actuary are both good majors to get a job. don't look at the state or city. Look at the school. You can not stay in the US on a student visa once classes are over. You may have a scholarship, but you are still going to have to get accepted into an US school. You will need to take the TOEFL exam for your English and the SAT. www.collegeboard.com FYI the $ sign goes in front of the amount. $3300

I would do engineering at Drexel Drexel has a coop program where you get work experience as an engineer prior to graduation. This helps you get a job. Drexel has a number of foreign students attending there and its science programs are some of the best. I know quite a few engineers born in India who went there and went on to very great careers in the US. There are too many business majors in the US right now. Unless you get into Wharton, or similarly prestigious school, you should stay away. There is high demand for engineers. The classes can be tough, but the reward is greater. There are an awful lot of people out there who don't like to work hard at sciences and chose to do business instead. You could always do business later with an engineering degree. It proves that you are smarter than business students. At least that is the perception in America
