How do you study biology?

How to study biology when the English is my second language?

  • This is my second semester in the US college, and I graduated high shcool in New Zealand. I am majoring in biology, and I never took any science course when I was in New zealand high school. On top of that, I can't really understand biology lectures, and the text book that we are using in the class. Moreover, English is my second language, so sometimes, I don't even know basic academic words. At last semester, I barely passed Chemistry course, because until middle of the last term, I got all Fs from the chemistry quizzes, and an exam. However, after first major exam, I started to get B, and A- from a couple of big exams. My advisor told me that, I shouldn't drop the biology course, becuase she thinks I can pass Biology course just like how I past my chemistry course. But I am really scared when I look at the books, and those unfamiliar words. Is there are anyone who were in similar circumstance as I am in right now? If there is, can you plz give me some tips for how to study biology as for a foriegner being?
