How could I study abroad?

How to convince my parents to let me study abroad to Japan during high school?

  • ok, so i want to study abroad in Japan for a year during high school. But my parents really want me to go in college, though i'm stuck on high school. they say that i'm too young and something might happen to me; they've also said that i might not get into the college that i want to go to, but i doubt that studying abroad will affect that much other than give me benefits.(is that necessarily true??) i've decided to try and become more responsible to try to convince them (i'm in 8th grade and if i study abroad in high school i'll go during my 3rd year) and hopefully all those years of being responsible will help convince them...i let them know last year (in 7th grade) that i wanted to study abroad in Japan (for i've always loved Japanese culture) and they saw how excited i was when they said yes. but now they've said no because of safety issues and the possibility of me not getting into the right college. this is the only things that they've really said about me not going, so i'm sure that if i can convince them of those 2 things i'm good to go. though they might say some other reasons....any way, PLEASE HELP. and if you've studied abroad to Japan please put how you loved it/it was helpful to get into a college of your choice or something, once again, THANK YOU!!!!:)

  • Answer:

You really can't "convince" them.. There isn't a particular thing you can say to change their minds. You just need to show responsibility and dedication, and see if they see a change in you that means you can handle it. You need to plan (money, travel, work, any problems that may arise should you do this) and tell them you are just preplanning in case they change their minds. Show them that you are capable.
