Where should I study abroad?

Where to study abroad and safety?

  • Has anyone ever studied abroad in Paraguay? What was it like? For some reason I am very interested in studying abroad there. Is it very safe though? Another place that I wouldn't mind studying abroad would be Argentina. I have traveled there several times, and I just love it. The problem is that I am not sure that my parents would let me go since they do know how unsafe it is in several locations. Anyways, my two questions are: How is the safety when you study abroad (if I were to go I would go with AFS) How are host families? I have heard a lot of complaints, but are they all true? Where do you recommend studying abroad?

  • Answer:

I was a modern languages major so I studied abroad in a TON of places, as required. For every country that you go, there are some very safe parts, and there are some dangerous parts. No country is dangerous everywhere (except for a select few that are currently fighting wars or just really REALLY dislike America). Russia was crazy, a lot of drinking and drugs, even in St. Petursburg, but it wasn't that unsafe. It was surrounding me, all the bad stuff, but it wasn't necessarily dangerous because no one really attacks you. It's just a crazy place. Italy was very good, very safe. Argentina is okay. Not too safe, not too dangerous. Depends on where you are. You should know your way. Paris wasn't that safe, but not too dangerous either. Berlin was one of the safest. They're very strict about their laws.
