What are some good universities in London?

Universities in London ? Help please...what do I need to do..?

  • I'm originally from England ( I lived there until I was 11 or so ) , and would really like to go to university in London. The problem is I don't know where to go and where I would be considered. Currently I am 15 and in grade 11 ( in Canada) . I would really like to go into political science, international relations, or law. However I only get grades that are between 80 and 90 percent ( last year my average was 89.5, this year so far I have; 82 in math, 84 -86 in English, 96 in social science, and a 95 in law and history ). I do really well in many classes ( particularly law, history, and science), but suffer in maths ( do i need it to be considered ?). I'm not sure if it is relevant but I also do theater, foot ball (soccer), tennis, rowing, dance and fencing... I also have ADD ( and "mild" dyslexia) so many say that universities will not want me, is that true ? So basically if any one has any suggestion or advise it would be greatly appreciated ! Also if you could tell me what grades I need ... Many thanks, Kai

Hello Kai, Firstly, let me just say that all universities in London will judge you on your grades and academic ability (rather than ADD / Dyslexia which are no indication of intelligence). The grades you need will depend on the course and university you choose. Generally top courses such as those at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) will require higher grades than universities with lower rankings/reputation. Here's the requirements at the LSE: http://www2.lse.ac.uk/study/informationForInternationalStudents/countryRegion/northAmerica/canada.aspx You will also see that here, you will need at least a grade C or equivalent in maths). Of the three subjects you mention, law will generally require the highest grades, followed by political science and then international relations. Here's the entry requirements for Kingston University London who offer international relations: http://www.kingston.ac.uk/international/guidance-and-advice/your-home-country/canada/entry-requirements/ Your social activities will not count for much although many universities ask for personal statements where they look for signs of voluntary work or projects or groups you may have worked with related to the subject you want to study. For example, for political science, you may have joined a debating team. I'd recommend shortlisting your favourite courses and then finding the entry requirements. You can search all courses in London on our website here: http://www.studylondon.ac.uk/courses Hope that helps and good luck, Simon http://www.studylondon.ac.uk
