I am a UK student and thinking about going to university in America to study medicine!?
-
I have no clue in how to do this. I have read a lot about uk universities, but I am considering going to America! I want to study medicine, I am studying Biology, Chemistry and Media! Is medicine good in america? What are they looking for in a student? What grades are they looking for? How much does it cost a year? Do you board there for the first year like in the uk? :)

Answer:
Unlike the UK you need a Bachelors degree from a US or Canadian university to attend a US medical school. This degree can be in any field as long as you take the required classes for admission. The commonly accepted coursework requirements for medical school include a minimum of 1 year of: General biology Physics with lab General chemistry (inorganic chemistry) with lab Organic chemistry with lab Calculus English This degree will take 4 years to complete and will cost US$30,000-$50,000 per year. Medical school is an additional 4 years. It is even more expensive. Very few US medical schools accept international students. Yes America has some of the best medical schools in the world but so does the UK. They look for the same thing as UK universities: great grades, volunteer work, medical shadowing, commitment etc As many A's as possible. No, you don't board for medical school. You arrange your own housing. It is very difficult to get into medical school. Yes the words, univeristy and college are used interchangeably in the US

You would need well in excess of £500,000 to do this. Are your parents extremely rich? Look at the international students pages on the various American University websites and take notes of all the info.

You would need a four year Bachelor degree with pre med classes, take the MCAT exam then apply for medical school. As an undergrad (a student studying for their bachelor degree) plan on paying at least $30,000 per year. You would need a 3.5+ GPA. In Med school, plan on at least $45,000 per year. college/university are the same thing here. most US students refer to an university as college. ie I am going to college this fall at Ohio State University.

O yea its damn hard to get in. They want no lower than 3.4 GPAs and with grade inflation from the top schools (meaning they bump up their grades) there are many graduatin high GPAs from college so competition is fierce. If you actully pass GPA threshold then interships will be helpful and extra activites. U also need to take the MCAT. I forgot the costs but each school is different but there should be and average cost on google or even on Y!A history. Even with all these its a nail biter. FML
