How can I get girls or boys to talk to me?

• you are so very much not gonna believe this but I'm eighteen and I'm still a virgin, I haven't even kissed anyone ever, I know I'm handsome and good to look at, sorry about that I'm not a narcisist, but I have eyes and I know it's true my friends have also told me so, and I just don't get why girls or boys won't talk to me, I know the ones who like, I do some eye contact with them just to let them know I like them too and they don't anything me and it makes wonder why? my friends say that it's because I have this thing which make people around afraid to talk to me, and my friends say they must think if they talk to me I'll be all hateful and stuff and I would say thing like "why are you talking to me, get lost" so they say I should talk to them but the thing is I'm really shy, and I don't even know how to start a conversation without blowing it, once I did it once and I still wish I really wouldn't have, I talked to this girl, who I really really like, and then I started to stammer for no apparent reason and she said I was weird, ever since I'm afraid to talk to people who I'm interested in, what do you think I should do?
