What exactly will I need to run two 12" subs through my car?

Any car audio pro heard/owned 12" subs JL Audio, Pioneer, Kicker, Alpine, RF with unbiased answer?

  • I've asked many questions about 12" subs but many recommend subs which they personally own! So I want to ask my question to someone that is unbiased and has heard or owned many of these subs, (preferably a sound expert or someone in the profession of car audio) and not just simply promoting what they own/or sell I'm living in the UK, and been looking everywhere including USA for the best subs in the market from retailers offering good prices, or price match offers. USA has a far more extensive range of 12" subs compared to the UK and in some cases a lot better value of money, with consideraton of international shipping and custom charges. - Eg sonicelectronix.com I am looking for serously powerful TWO 12" subs that has the overall best sound quality and sound pressure level, not just one or the other but a balance of BOTH. So far I've come across the Pioneer 12" TS-W3002D4 (1000RMS) retailed $150x1 sub, JL AUDIO 12W6v2-D4 (600RMS) $300x1, JL Audio 12W3v3-4 (500RMS) retailed $140x1, Alpine SWR-1242D (500RMS) TYPE R retailed $110x1, Rockford Fosgate P3D412 (500RMS) retailed $150x1, or Kicker 06CVX124 (750RMS) retailed $150x1. Ive heard people say the Kicker is more for SPL, JL Audio is more SQ, etc. Even though I feel SQ is essential I need something powerful too to with a low bass and that can set of car alarms. Looking at user reviews in the UK for the Pioneer 12" TS-W3002D4, and at crutchfield signature, and sonicelectronix - http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_16665_Pioneer+Premier+TS-W3002D4.html The pioneer def looks promising! My cousin has the older Pioneer SPL version and has heard this from someone else's car and he recommends this too for the SQ, SPL and best value for money! I already have a 1000W kenwood amp, so I need another 1000W amp to run these if i were to get them. I know you can also get 2000W Hifonics amps at a good value! So to all the unbiased professional car audio experts, since I DONT have access to listening to all these speakers where I'm from, which one is the most recommendable in terms of overall SQ/SPL and not soo expensive? Note: Some say Alpine Type R's, but how can that be comparable as thats 500RMS compared to 1000RMS. Maybe Alpine Type R's are simply overrated due to a lot of people owning them due to the low cost of them?

  • Answer:

Nah man Alpine Type R's aren't overrated. They're a real good quality subwoofer, and for the price you can't really get anything better than that. Yeah they say only 500RMS, but the watts aren't the only thing that matter, besides you could probably push it like 700 or 800 watts and itll still be bumping hard. Good sound quality and they get very loud too while still mainting their sound quality. Go for the R's if you're on a budget, but if you dont care about money then you should get the $300 JL W6, assuming that you are going to get two of those.
