What is Dimmer wire on my wiring harness for?

Why does my stereo wiring harness have an extra ground, and an extra constant power wire?

  • The wiring harness for my new stereo im about to install has 2 chassis ground (black) wires, and 2 12v constant (yellow) wires. My actual stereo only has 1 of each. What do i do with the extras? does it matter which one i solder together?

  • Answer:

You can use any of those wires as they all connect to the same location. Just tape off the ends of the ones you aren't using. They are just extras for other things like eq's and such.

Newer Chrysler vehicle? The adapter harness has power and ground wires in both locations either because the factory radio plug has two wires, or because the factory plug may have a wire in either location. The best thing to do is connect both wires to the head unit wire; ie, connect all three yellow wires together.
