How do I hook up an amp?

How should i hook up my ipod to my 4 channel amp?

  • Just bought a 4 channel amp and am trying to hook up two 6.5" speakers and a 10" sub The amp has two inputs one for channel 1/2 and another input for channel 3/4 I get that I need to hook each speaker up to each channel 1 and then another to channel 2 and then use a HPF, then bridge channel 3 and 4 for my sub and use a LPF I dont get whether I will have to split the input, or if i just hook up my ipod with rca cable to the channel 1/2 input if it will play on both channels Basically im asking do i need to split the rca cable for both inputs to play the speakers and sub or will all of it play if i hook it into just channel 1/2 input? my amp is an Autotek 950W Max, 4-Channel Amplifier

  • Answer:

The required input voltage on the amp and the output from the Ipod is quite different. To make it simple, splurge on a head unit that connects to the Ipod and can control it. There's plenty out there that can be had for little of nothing. If you split cables and such to feed the amp you will more than likely have a weak signal and very possibly introduce noise into the system.

Ok you do NOT hook up your ipod to the amp. For using your ipod, you will have to connect it to your head unit whether it be through a headphone jack on it or if theres RCA inputs. But it is not meant to be plugged into the amp
