What size amp should i get for my speakers?

  • i am wanting to put 4 new speakers in my truck. i am also wanting to get an amp to connect to my speakers. But i have no idea what size amp to get(one that has enough power but wont blow my speakers) Ex. lets say i get 4 60 watt speakers, what size amp should i get, or do i need an amp. also lets say i get 2 600 pheonix gold subs, wat size amp should i get for that. should it be a mono channel or 2 channel. thanks

    I'd suggest getting a component set for up front and you can throw some coaxials in the back. You say you want something with enough power but won't blow speakers? Amplifiers have gain knobs. You use a digital multimeter to correctly set gains, you can run 10,000 watt amps on a 50 watt speaker if you set the amp to 50 watts. Plus having some headroom is nice. If you have 4 60 watt speakers, try looking for a 60-80x4 amp that does that power at an impedance load that works for your speakers. You do need an amp. If you have 2 600 watt PG subs (RMS, not Peak) you can run either a 2 channel like 600x2, or a mono, 1200x1. Make sure the ohm loads match up and that it's a quality brand. ALWAYS LOOK FOR RMS, NEVER PEAK.

You need a 4 channel amp that is at less 50watts rms per channel. You also need an amp that is capable of the 500 watts rms for the sub woofers. If you are using a factory head unit you will also need a high low converter so that you can plug the amps to it. If you replace the head unit then you can just plug the amps to it. Look for name brand like: JBL, JL Audio, Alpine, Infinity, Rockford Fosgate and MTX to name a few. They are more dependable to there rating than the off brands. You get what you pay for on off brands. Hope this will help you out.
