How to install a cd player in 93 ford taurus?

1999 Ford Taurus- installing a cd player...?

  • I have a 1999 Ford Taurus wagon. I want to install a cd player, and I'm pretty sure the only way I can do it is by putting in cd changer, mounted somewhere in the car or trunk. Does anyone know if this can be any cd changer, or is there a specific one Ford is wired for? Where do they go? Any ideas on where I can get one inexpensively? I already tried Crutchfield but it didn't help. Thank you.

    If you have digital climate controls, then your only option is like you mentioned, a CD changer. They'll typically work off of FM transmission. Typical mounting locations include under seats, or in the trunk. You may be able to get one through Ford, but aftermarket will more than likely be cheaper. Best Buy will carry several models ranging from Pioneer to Sony.

It depends on whether or not your car has the automatic temperature controls. I had a 2000 Taurus with the automatic controls and my options were either the factory CD changer or modify the dash and completely run new wires. If you have the 3 knobs to control the temperature there is a kit to add an after market radio to it. The kit involves disconnecting the connectors from the RCU in the trunk and running the wires to the radio area in the dash. The brains of the radio is actually in the trunk with just the controls in the dash. The Scosche kit FD1340 is the one for the 96-99 Taurus. For an after market CD changer antenna adaptors would be required as the Taurus has a different connector as compared to the ones that the CD changers have. The CD changers are usually installed in the trunk.
