How to set the gain on amp?

How do i set the gain on my amp? it also has a bass control knob will it change the way it is done?

  Do not Bass Control knobs! They look cool and they "make it louder", but they use bass boost to achieve that, and that gives it distorted power. Never use bass boost, its useless unless you want to destroy the sub or amp. As for gain, turn it down all the way, then turn the music to the level you listen to most (a higher level). I use a real hard beat when I tune my amps. Now on the amp turn the gain up (not bass boost) until you hear the sub distort or "peak", then turn the gain down about a quarter turn. You have set gain successfully! Its that easy. =).
