How to tell if used subs and amp are still good?

• I am thinking about buying used subwoofers and amp on craiglist. How can I tell if they are still good and in great shape? Would the person on craiglist lie to me about the subs or amp. I am asking this because I am thinking about buying two 10in subs a 1000 watt amp and custom box for the subs for 125 dollars. Would that be a good deal, or is it too good of a deal, and the subs or amp wont be in that good of shape?

  This question is very broad. You have to be more specific. What kind of subwoofers are they? Some subwoofers like pyle and pyramid can cost little as 30 dollars and sound like it too. Other subwoofers like incriminator audio, dd, hertz, FI, etc. can cost upwards of 1000 dollars. Take the palm of your hand and push directly on the subwoofer in a little bit. Do this gently. If you hear a crackling noise, then it may be shot. Check the rubber surround (this may be foam) to see if it is corroaded or not. take the subwoofers out of the box if there is one and smell the coil to check if they are burnt or not. Yes, people on craigslist will lie.
