Sub Woofer Box Design?

Can i just make a box for my sub woofer or do I need special parts.?

  • I have a 1988 GMC Sierra no extended cab with just a bench, and i have no space to put the sub woofer in the back so i need to put it in between the bench seats and in the feet area under the radio for the middle seat. They are crazy dimensions for example: 14.5" wide, 11.5" depth, and 12" inches tall. I cannot purchase a box that are these dimensions so i was going to make one. And i was wondering if i need to carpet this box or is that just for looks- and another question do i need terminal cups for this box. Thank you for the feedback.

  • Answer:

Usually when you build a box for a subwoofer, you have to meet a cubic space requirement for the inside of the box. By doing this, you will get the maximum kick out of the woofer. The formula to calculate the airspace is *length times width times height* Make sure you use internal dimensions; i.e. if you are using 3/4 MDF to build the box, then subtract 1.5 inches from each dimension *note - 1 cubic foot = 1728 inches (12x12x12) As for the terminals, you probably want them. Its alot easier to hook up to a box with terminals than wires. Hope this helps
