What kind of wire for CB antenna?

  • Ok. So I noticed that i can unskrew the cb anteena from its magnetic mount and it happens to fit very nicely on the fm antennas mount. So if i just get rid of the fm antenna and skrew on the cb antenna... can I... Use the existing antenna wire? If not. Can I splice into it very close with the proper rg58, leaving only about 3 or 4 inches of the old wire, right before the antenna. I only ask cuz the antenna assembly is kind of hard to get to. But if not. Then ill just re wire it. So... How much wire do I need to run from my CB to My Auto antenna. Whats the specific length and what kind of cable.... ok thanks.

    Splicing into the antenna cable will not work. That and the antenna itself will not work. The antenna and cable that you have for your CB is matched for HF wavelength used for CB transmissions. If you change the antenna or alter the cable without using a load equalizer then you will ruin your transmitter.
