What is stereo stable?

Will any custom stereo fit in 1989 volvo 740?if not what would be the most compatible stereo and most economic?

• I recently bought a 1989 Volvo 740 and have been surfing the internet trying to find what I thought would be a simple question. I want to replace the stock stereo but was told that it is too hard to remove the stock stereo. So that is my 1st question. Is this true? Also if I can replace it what would be the most compatible and cheapest custom stereo to put in? (Brand, model etc)
