My speakers have a problem.

What is the problem with my speakers my car?

  • I drive a 2001 cavalier and i just purchased the car and havnt had any problems with it. But the back trunk 6x9 speakers cut in and out and i asked the previous owner and he said that he had the same problem but he said it usually worked better with the base off and tune set to rock. I still have problems with the back speakers even with that setting so would the problem be the deck, speakers or the wiring? If you have any ideas or problem solvers it would help A LOT. thanks

    if it's aftermarket speakers than they might be touching ground but if they are stock maybe its time for new ones

could be bad wiring or could be a bad voice coil. because he said to set it to rock (and rock music tends to have less bass) im guessin itd be the voice coil since everytime the woofer part hits, it could jiggle the voice coil outta position. (happened to my friend's speakers, the voice coils detatched) if you REALLY wanna test them, then connect a separate audio source (such as from a home stereo) into the speaker's terminals and see if they still cut in and out. if they dont, then you prolly wanna test the wiring. try connecting the wires to a home speaker (such as your computer speaker) and see how they fare. if they dont cut in n out, then it could be your head unit wiring, or even worse a problem with your head unit's output. its recommended to run the wiring of each speaker yourself rather than using a vehicle's stock wiring, because although this will take more work, it will definatley limit the time to diagnose the problem.
