Car amplifier and sub?

Can I run this sub in a car with an amplifier?

  • I have a Ram 1500 with 2 boston acoustic g1's now but i am selling my truck for a Infiniti M45 so i need a new subwoofer and I dont really want to buy new subs. I have a Logitech 10" sub in my closet that says Sub-woofer: 188 watts RMS: 376 watts peak(into 8 ohms, @ 100Hz, @ 10% THD) whatever that means? so could it technically handle 1504 watts at 2 ohms peak? thats what I've been told? Please help. I really know nothing about this :)

  • Answer:

No do not do this unless you really want to kill that LOGITECH sub. The lower the OHM the less resistance there is, does not mean anything about the speakers rms changing. If you send 1504 watts to that sub please video that and post it to you tube because that would be funny. Now is what you could do is remove your stereo system from the truck and put the stock system back in and then put your system in the M45. That is if you still have the stock system for your truck, which is why you should always keep the stock equipment around because you never know when you may feel like getting rid of your current ride or just replaceing it. Also when your looking at stereo equipment pay absolutely no attention to peak wattage, means nothing what so ever. You need to look at the rms wattage. When looking for an amp to run subs, look for a mono block amp that is at least 1 OHM stable so if you wire the subs down the amp is still going to fit your application.
