How To Wire Subs To Amp?
-
I recently purchased two Kicker Solo-Baric L7 15 Inch subs. 1000 RMS at 4 Ohms. 2000 Peak. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013AAI44/ref=oss_product I purchased a 2500 watt HiFonics Amp. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_22704_Hifonics+HFi2500D.html Should the subs be wired as a 4 ohm load or a 1 with this amp? I would also like to keep my stock radio if possible. Any suggestions on wiring kits as well? Not entirely sure all of what I need.

Answer:
The subs are 4 ohm and the amp gives 2500 watts rms at 1 ohm so you would have to wire them like this- http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard/2_4ohmDVC_1ohm.gif And not to busrt your bubble, I own a hifonics 2608d and im only pulling out 2100 watts rms also with my 1210d. im only getting 989 watts rms at 1 ohm. Hifonics tends to fill there mouth up and find out they cant chew it all like they thought they could. in the future strap a zx2500.1 to them and watch them rumble or even a zx1500.1 Hope i helped

You will want to wire the system down to 1ohm using a parallel/parallel wiring method. Diagram is here --> <--http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=4<-- use the first diagram. This does present a slight problem, that amp puts out more rated power than the subs. Your looking at 2000watts of rated power for the subs and the amps does 2500watts. So your going to want to be careful, and I say this knowing the L7 can do more than rated. Just be sure to have the amp tuned properly and be sure eliminate any clipping. As for installing, the amp does not have hi-pass in puts (speaker level). You are going to have to get a line output converter. This will take the speaker outputs from the deck and give you a RCA output. My recommendation would be to get a matching set of harnesses to avoid cutting the factory wiring. That is, a into factory harness and into factory radio. This will give you a simple tie in and no cutting of factory wires. Also, make sure the output converter you get is a pass through, which lets the speaker signal go into it to allow the conversion, but also has the speaker outputs to go to the speakers.
In order for your sub wiring question to be answered, one would have to know whether you have dual 4 or 2 ohm voice coils. In order to power those subs you will want to go with a 2 or 1 Ohm load to your amp. This will give you1700 watts for the 2 Ohm load, which will be about 850 watts per sub. Or 2500 watts for the 1 Ohm load, which will be about 1250 per sub. Just be sure to check your subs for the resistance of the voice coils. Here are some wiring diagrams that can help you decide how to wire your subs. http://www.kicker.com/dvc_wiring
