Why do cobalt speakers randomly stop working?

  • So right after my three year warranty was up, my front left speaker completely stops working. It was not blown, it just stopped working. It would randomly work and then not work and one day it just gave up and I tested it with a multimeter and hooked it up to a stereo and nothing. Replaced that, now my right front speaker decided to start doing the same thing. I noticed that if I make sure the head unit isn't on when I turn the car on and then when I turn the head unit on, make sure the volume is all the way down, then give it a few seconds and turn it up the right speaker will be working 95% of the time. I noticed that this is a reoccurring problem with cobalts. There are forums filled with the question "Why is my cobalt's front/right speaker not working?" and they all describe exactly what happens to me, randomly going in and out and then one day not working. Considering I don't play my music past what the speakers can handle, I shouldn't be having speakers that stop working. I also find it odd that they start to mess up literally a few days after my warranty was up. I have an 08 cobalt by the way. Is this a problem with the stock speakers? I don't want to bother buying the stock replacement again if I am just going to have to replace it rather than spending a little more and getting decent speaker that won't crap out for no reason.

    i got a Cobalt 07 an when i bought it front speakers didnt work i ffigured it was stereo so i went to walmart bought speakers an tried that first ......wah lah ! fixed i bout a set of 30 dollar front speakers sounds great

Interesting. Sounds the familiar problem with my sisters 06 Colbat. The speakers just start to blown. I think the cheap wires just start to burn out and need to be replaced. That's a pain in a butt and maybe a expensive fix. Just grab some Subwoofers and a amp.
